A Thankful Heart

Yesterday was Thanksgiving here in Canada and it was been a wonderful day full of family, friends, gorgeous weather, and a lot of food. I love getting together with family and being surrounded by the laughter and love that they bring to our gatherings. We visited with my dad’s side of the family whom I haven’t been able to see as often since getting married and moving to a different city, so I was especially eager to spend time with them!

After spending the day catching up with everyone and eating a ridiculous amount of delicious food, I headed back home. When driving back to my current city from my hometown, I always take the back roads. I love how quiet they are and how beautiful they can be, especially in the fall with all the changing leaves falling along the road, the cornfields and pumpkin patches….I took it all in and thought about how grateful I was for today and how much I have to be thankful for every day.

Gratitude is so important. Being thankful and humble opens the door to increased positivity and happiness. There is so much to be thankful for, no matter what is happening in our lives. So often we let ourselves focus on negativity and we forget to be grateful for what we do have and for the things are going well. Thanksgiving reminds us to take the time to reflect on each of our blessings not just on Thanksgiving day, but every day.

I decided to share with you a list of ten things that I am thankful for this year to remind myself to be grateful for everything in my life. I hope I can inspire you to do the same!

1.) The grace and love of the Lord. It is an incredible thing to have the unconditional love and forgiveness of Christ and I am so blessed by the things He has given me.

2.) My family. They have always been the ones to support me and love me without fail.

3.) My wonderful and loving husband. He’s my biggest supporter, best friend, and the love of my life.

4.) My amazing friends. I don’t know what I would do without them in my life.

5.) Education. No matter how much university can make me feel stressed out sometimes, I know that others around the world sadly do not have this opportunity and I have an obligation to embrace my chance to learn and grow from inspiring, intelligent people.

5.) My health. I am so thankful to be healthy and energized although consistent exercise and healthy eating to maintain my health has been minimal lately. I’m making a promise to myself to improve on this ASAP!

6.) My job. I love that serving gives me the opportunity to meet and talk with many interesting people!

7.) Books. I love that a good book can instantly improve your mood, make you laugh, make you cry, inspire you, and even take you to a different place entirely.

8.) Music. Music has gotten me through so many things in my life. It has helped me through tough times and helped me express my joy. Listening to or playing music is an experience that I am so glad I get to have on a daily basis.

9.) Living in a small town. The city I lived in before was not too large, but coming to where I live now has been a nice change of pace for me. Everyone knows one another and it’s very easy to get around town which I love. I have always loved the feel of a small town and I now get to experience that every day.

10.) My cat Trevor. My husband and I adopted Trevor almost a month ago now and we adore him. He is so friendly and cuddly and makes an excellent study buddy!

I am so thankful for all of these things and so much more and I hope to continue to express my gratitude and love each and every day.

I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving this year and that you feel blessed and love every single day!
