Blogmas Day 3: Christmas Gifts on a Budget

Who doesn’t like saving money during the holiday season (or anytime of the year)? I know I do! As we all know, the Christmas season can certainly get expensive. There are so many ways to give amazing gifts without going over your budget.

Today, I’m going to share five simple and budget friendly gift ideas that are perfect for this holiday season.

1.) Cookies in a jar

I did this for my friends last Christmas and they all loved it! It’s so easy to personalize the recipes to your friends/family members’ tastes. Put all of your cookie ingredients in a mason jar, write out the list of ingredients in the mix and the instructions on a card, put a cute bow around it and you have a sweet little Christmas treat for your loved one.

Here’s one of my favourite recipes: Cranberry White Chocolate Oatmeal cookies from Raining Hot Coupons

2.) Candles

Candles are a no-brainer gift. I haven’t come across too many people who haven’t appreciated receiving a candle as a gift before! Some can be on the more expensive side, but you just have to look around. I found some really nice candles that were pretty inexpensive from Home Sense which will make great gifts!

If you’re feeling creative, you could make candles for your loved ones! You can repurpose old candle jars or mason jars, or even small tea cups to put your candles in.

Run to Radiance has great information on making your own essential oil candles easily (peppermint would be great for Christmas).

3.) Slipper Stuffers

Cozy slippers are another great gift idea! You can take fill them with other little gifts like a small bottle of lotion, lip balm, their favourite candy/chocolate…any small treat or gift that you think they would enjoy is perfect!

I got this idea from Jessica and Sarah over at Pretty Providence. If you need more ideas on what to stuff your slippers with, check out their page!

4.) Hot Chocolate Gift Box/Basket

Another great DIY gift idea! Get a small box or basket (you can find some really cute ones at the dollar store), line it with some tissue paper and fill it with a cute mug (again, you can find these at the dollar store), a container of hot chocolate, a few candy canes, and a small bag of marshmallows. You could also do this with tea or coffee depending on the person’s preference!

5.) Movie Night Kit

I did this for my mother-in-law two years ago and she loved it! It’s a simple gift but like all the others I’ve talked about in this post, it is budget friendly and easy to personalize.

Pick up a DVD they would enjoy (Walmart often has bins filled with DVDs with for $5-$10), a package of their favourite candy, and a bag of microwave popcorn, tie it all together with a festive ribbon and voila! A perfect little gift for the movie lovers in your life.

These are just a few of my favourite DIY/budget-friendly Christmas gift ideas but there are so many more out there to choose from!

What are some of your ideas for sticking to your budget this year?

Happy gifting!
