Blogmas Day 19: Winter Skin Care Routine

As soon as the winter weather comes in, my skin gets really dry. I have combination skin (but it’s a little on the oily side most days) and my dry patches are emphasized even more over the winter months. My skin is also really sensitive so, I find my skin needs just a little extra care during the winter. I finally found a daily routine that doesn’t irritate my skin, keeps is feeling soft, reduces the dry patches, and doesn’t turn my face into an oil slick.

Morning Skin Care Routine

My morning skin care routine is pretty simple. I try to be really diligent with my night skin care routine so that my morning routine can be kept as simple as possible.

1.) Tone: I use witch hazel as toner and I find that it works really well for skin. I have used witch hazel for years and I have never had issues with it.

2.) Moisturize: I have tried a few different moisturizers over the past year, but I think I found one that works well for my skin. I use Olay Complete moisturizer for combination/oily skin. It keeps my face feeling soft but doesn’t make me look overly oily.

3.) Lip Balm: I included this in my winter essentials post, but my favourite lip balm is the Smith’s Rosebud Salve.

Night Skin Care Routine

1.) Makeup Removal: I use the Garnier Skin Active Micellar Water for dry skin to remove my makeup.

2.) Cleanse: To cleanse my face, I use the Nivea Purifying Cleansing Gel for Combination skin. It leaves my skin feeling soft and clean and gently exfoliates any dry skin.

3.) Tone: Witch hazel, as usual.

4.) Serum: I have been using L’Oreal’s Youth Code Texture Perfector serum for a few months now and I have noticed that it has helped to reduce the appearance of my pores and has even reduced some of the red patches on my cheeks.

5.) Moisturize: Again, I use my Olay Complete for combination/oily skin.

6.) Eye Cream: I have been using eye cream for about 6 months now and I have noticed a bit of a difference. The fine lines have been reduced and I find that my eyes don’t seem as puffy the next morning. I just ran out of the eye cream I have been using (Clinique All About Eyes) so if anyone has a suggestion for another great eye cream, let me know!

I also incorporate a facial scrub, clay mask, and face oil twice a week for extra care in the winter.

I use the St. Ives Even and Bright facial scrub, L’Oreal Clay mask Clear and Comfort for sensitive skin, and Sculpt 100% Argan face oil.

What does your winter skin care routine look like? I’d love to know what products you use!
